Observability
Grafana, Prometheus, and the ELK stack.
Logging & Collection
Filebeat, Windows Exporter, and working with logs as they are captured and processed.
Containers & Infrastructure
Docker and the surrounding tooling used to run and connect different components.
Networking
Zeek and Wireshark for exploring network traffic and understanding what is happening across a system.
Automation
n8n for experimenting with workflow automation and connecting different tools.
It was a lot more than tools.
Logs are data.
I learned how logs are generated, collected, transported, and eventually made useful for understanding what is happening inside a system.
Systems are connected.
Monitoring a system isn't just about one tool. Different components have to work together to provide a useful picture of what is happening.
Setup teaches you things.
Configuring unfamiliar tools, troubleshooting problems, and figuring out why something isn't working taught me as much as the tools themselves.
A lot of new tools.
One big learning experience.
This internship was my first real exposure to the kind of systems that are easy to overlook when you're only writing application code. It gave me a much better appreciation for how software, infrastructure, networks, and data come together.
