Learning how shells work and exploring system programming by implementing a custom shell in C and C++.
Overview
This project explores how command-line shells work internally. Instead of simply using an existing shell, I'm implementing the fundamental pieces required to create one.
Why I Built It
I wanted to understand what happens between typing a command into a terminal and having the operating system execute it. This project lets me explore processes, system calls, command parsing, and process management.
How It Works
The shell reads commands from the user, parses the input, creates the necessary processes, and interacts with the operating system to execute programs.
What I'm Learning
Through this project I'm getting practical experience with C, C++, Linux, processes, system programming, and the relationship between applications and the operating system.
